The results of a studio shoot with Mike this afternoon

Mike’s incredible back piece is the work of tattoo artist Marco from Tattoo Noord in Amsterdam.

The portrait shots were taken with a Nikkor 85mm 1.4G and most of the detail shots are taken with a Nikkor 105mm 2.8G. The key light was a Elinchrom 150cm indirect Octa, and for some of the portraits I used 2 striplights in the back for accent.

A few photos from a session with Michelle last Sunday…

Just a bit of experimenting with different one-light-setups and wide apertures. These photos were shot with a Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 and a Nikkor 85mm 1.4G.

Nirvana / Manga

A few photos from a shoot with 14 year old Nirvana and her Manga outfits…

The photos with the white background where shot with two silver umbrellas at the white background (Elinchrom BXRi’s), a white beauty dish with a silver deflector and white diffusion sock above camera and slightly to the left (BXRi 250). And I used a large gridded stripbox on the camera’s right for fill (Ranger RX). One of the photos in the gallery below shows this setup. I also used two bookends to prevent light from the background spilling on Nirvana and to prevent flare. The lighting ratio was about 1.5 stop over on the background, and about 1.5 stop under for fill. The key light (beauty dish) was set at f13.

A few lighting experiments with Danii

I took my daughter along to test a few lighting setups.

I used different setups for the ones with the white background, but how I made the background 100% white was the same for all the photos. I.e. two silver umbrellas (BXRi 250) at the background left and right @ f11 and a keylight @ f8 / f9 to light the model with various modifiers above camera (white beautydish, softbox etc). I added a softbox aiming up from the floor for a clam-shell setup for a few shots. The darker shots are all one-light setups, lit with either the Elinchrom 150cm deep octa or my gridded striplight (BXRi 500).

Officine Panerai SIHH 2012 photo report

The Salon International Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) is held every year in Geneva. All the important brands present their new models there. I visited SIHH for the third time last January, and I shot live pictures ofthe new Panerai line up.

The photos of a shoot with Winonah and her daughter in January this year

Winonah is a tattoo artist apprentice @ Tattoo Noord in Amsterdam. Most of her own tattoos are done by Marco.

I used a variety of lighting setups for these photos – including 5 light setups with the 150cm Octabox and single light setups (gridded strip light on a BXRi 250).
